Plymouth Boss Muslic Praises Leeds as ‘High-Rollers’ After Hard-Fought Finale
Plymouth Argyle head coach Miron Muslic referred to Leeds United as the Championship’s “high-rollers” after his side pushed Daniel Farke’s promotion-winning team all the way on the final day of the season.
Despite being unable to steer Plymouth to safety following his mid-season appointment, Muslic earned praise for the spirited performances his team produced against some of the league’s top sides, including Leeds. The Austrian took charge after Wayne Rooney’s departure, inheriting a team entrenched in the relegation zone. While Argyle remained in the fight until late in the campaign, their fate was effectively sealed before their clash with Leeds at Home Park.
Muslic said he was proud of the effort and resilience his players had shown, particularly in their final match against a side he described as deserving champions.
“Even though we were mathematically down before today, we showed incredible character and made it very tough for Leeds,” Muslic said. “It speaks volumes about the spirit in this team. Of course, in games like this, sometimes the better side finds a way. That’s what champions do. Leeds were ruthless. Congratulations to Daniel Farke and his team on an outstanding season.”
Despite Plymouth taking a surprise lead in the first half, Leeds battled back and sealed the win, reinforcing their dominance in the division. Muslic praised Leeds’ quality, singling out the match-winner as a prime example of their squad strength.
“The player who scored today is worth 40 million euros – that tells you everything about the level we’re playing against.”
One notable selection from Muslic was young midfielder Caleb Roberts, handed only his second league start – the first having come in the reverse fixture at Elland Road earlier in the season, under Rooney.
“Yeah, it seems like he only plays against the big guns,” Muslic quipped. “And still performs – that shows real promise. Caleb represents the future of Plymouth Argyle.”
With relegation confirmed, Plymouth will return to League One next season. Meanwhile, Leeds ascend to the Premier League, aiming to secure a longer stay than recent one-season returnees like Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton.
