Wolves Fans Excited by Rising Star Rodrigo Gomes as Pereira Eyes Long-Term Potential

Wolves supporters are enjoying the sight of a young, dynamic squad competing confidently in the Premier League — and Rodrigo Gomes is fast becoming a standout example of that youthful energy.

Signed from SC Braga during the summer transfer window by Gary O’Neil, Gomes has brought both promise and versatility to Molineux.

The Portugal U21 international fits seamlessly into Vitor Pereira’s tactical plans, capable of playing as an attacking wide option or more commonly as a wing-back.

Though often used as an impact substitute, Gomes has already made key contributions this season — most notably a stunning goal against Leicester City in late April. Still just 21, he’s showing flashes of brilliance, but like many young talents, he remains a work in progress.

Pereira Encourages Gomes to Learn from Andre’s Example

In Wolves’ recent 1–0 defeat to Manchester City, Gomes was challenged by the pace and trickery of Jeremy Doku — a test that highlighted both his strengths and areas for growth.

Manager Vitor Pereira praised his energy and commitment but emphasized the need to sharpen his decision-making and composure on the ball.

“He’s quick, he gives everything,” Pereira told the Express & Star. “But we still need to manage his injury and develop key aspects of his game, especially when he’s in possession and making decisions.”

Despite his rawness, Pereira values Gomes’ impact at any point in the match: “Whether it’s five, 10, or 50 minutes, he brings fire.”

Pereira wants Gomes to follow the example of fellow Wolves midfielder Andre, who successfully evolved his game to thrive in English football.

“When I faced Fluminense, Andre was a technical playmaker,” said Pereira. “Now, he’s adapted to the physicality of the Premier League without losing his style. That’s the kind of growth we want from Rodrigo.”

Gomes Tipped as Potential Successor to Semedo

While Gomes is considered one for the future, there’s growing belief he could step into a more prominent role sooner than expected — especially with Nelson Semedo’s contract nearing its end.

Talks are ongoing with Semedo, and fans hope he stays on for a few more seasons. But if not, Wolves may already have his heir in Gomes.

With his pace, creativity, and flair, the youngster offers plenty going forward. What he needs now is to develop his defensive discipline and decision-making — qualities that typically improve with experience.
