Controversial VAR Call as Palace Goal Disallowed

However, the decision raised eyebrows. Journalist Henry Winter criticized the vague explanation given by the league, suggesting the lack of detail didn’t do justice to such a tight call.
Former FIFA referee Keith Hackett echoed this sentiment in comments made to Tottenham News, saying the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) must provide more clarity.
“The system currently in use doesn’t have a chip in the ball, and the law states ‘touched or played’,” Hackett explained. “They rely on ball-tracking, but I believe there’s a slight delay in processing decisions.”
He added: “While the offside decision may be technically correct if the shoulder is beyond the last defender, it raises questions about the system’s accuracy without a chip in the ball. That needs answering.”
Postecoglou’s Position Under Pressure
Palace’s win handed Tottenham their 20th league defeat in 36 matches, further intensifying scrutiny on Postecoglou.
The Australian manager appears to be out of excuses, and many believe even a Europa League triumph might not be enough to secure his future at the club.
Finishing just above the relegation zone is seen as a humiliation for a side of Tottenham’s stature—no matter what happens in other competitions.
