Thomas Frank Hails Ipswich Effort After Brentford Edge Tight Contest
Brentford manager Thomas Frank praised Ipswich Town’s spirited performance after his side narrowly secured a 1-0 victory at Portman Road in a tense encounter filled with VAR drama.
Kevin Schade’s 16th-minute header proved to be the difference in a match with limited clear-cut opportunities. Ipswich came close to leveling late in the game, with Omari Hutchinson striking the post and Cameron Burgess forcing a strong save from Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken.
“I always expected a tough test,” said Frank. “Full credit to Ipswich—they gave everything and pushed hard to break us down.
“We were in control during the first half and got our goal. In the second half, we managed the game well until the final five minutes.
“When you’re 1-0 up away from home, those last moments are always frantic. Mark had to make a crucial save, but overall, I think we earned the win.”
Brentford captain Christian Norgaard echoed his manager’s sentiment, admitting it was a challenging outing.
“It was definitely a tough game,” said the Danish midfielder. “Ipswich were desperate to get a win in front of their home fans, especially given their recent struggles here.
“We didn’t manage to finish the game off in the second half, but aside from one big save from Mark, I think we handled it well.
“That’s why we have him—he’s been fantastic for us all season.”
