Oliver Glasner revealed Prince William congratulated him after Crystal Palace’s FA Cup win
Oliver Glasner shared what Prince William said to him after Crystal Palace’s FA Cup victory on Saturday, just three weeks after the Royal watched his beloved Aston Villa be eliminated by Palace in the semi-finals.
The Prince, who had to experience Villa’s 3-0 defeat from afar at the end of April while attending Pope Francis’ funeral in Vatican City, was at Wembley for the final.
Eberechi Eze played the hero for Palace, scoring the decisive goal in their 1-0 win over Manchester City, securing the club’s first major trophy in its 120-year history.
Prince William, 42, was seen shaking hands with all the players from both teams as they lined up before the match, and later presented the winners’ medals to Palace players.
During the post-match celebrations, William and Palace manager Glasner exchanged words, and the Austrian coach revealed what the future monarch had said to him.
Glasner smiled as he recalled the conversation, saying, “You know he’s an Aston Villa fan…” when asked about their interaction.
Then, taking a more serious tone, Glasner added, “No, no, he congratulated all of us for our performances.”
Prince William, an avid football fan, has been involved in numerous campaigns for England to host major tournaments, with Wembley often being the proposed venue.
He has also been a regular at Villa matches this season, even taking his son, Prince George, to Champions League games at Villa Park.
In 2022, the Prince was seen enjoying a pint of cider with Villa fans at a Wetherspoon’s pub in Birmingham New Street Station.
William’s support for Aston Villa has an interesting backstory. In a 2015 interview with the BBC, he explained how he came to back the club: “A long time ago at school, I got into football, big time.
I was looking around for a club to support, and all my friends at school were either Manchester United fans or Chelsea fans.” To avoid following the crowd, William chose Villa as his team.
