It’s been over 10 months since Glen Kamara departed Leeds United in a move reportedly worth £8.4 million.
The Finnish international played a key role in Leeds’ journey to the Championship play-off final and had the option to remain at Elland Road, but instead chose to take on a new challenge in France.
However, Kamara struggled to make an impact at Rennes, managing just 13 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.
Earlier this year, he was loaned out to Saudi club Al-Shabab, who are believed to hold an option to make the deal permanent.
During his loan stint, Kamara made 11 appearances in the second half of the campaign.
Alex Iwobi, now at Fulham, described Kamara as the most underrated player he has played alongside, reflecting on their shared time in Arsenal’s youth system.
“Glen Kamara. Baller,” Iwobi said on the Inside Scoop podcast. “When I go power league, he’s the first person I want on my team.”
Kamara brought grit and energy to Leeds’ midfield but often lacked the finesse and creativity in possession to influence play in the final third.
Leeds took their time to find a replacement during the summer window, but the wait paid off.
Ao Tanaka settled quickly into the Championship and became a standout performer, helping Leeds return to the Premier League after two seasons.
All eyes will be on Tanaka in the top flight, where questions remain about his physicality and emotional resilience.
He was visibly affected at times during his debut season in England as Leeds chased promotion.
