“Did Leeds United deserves promotion?”- Burnley Star Breaks Silence with Shock Message to Leeds After Heartbreaking Title Twist
Leeds Edge Burnley to Championship Title with Dramatic Final-Day Goal
Leeds United clinched the Championship title in dramatic fashion, needing a stoppage-time winner on the final day to edge past Burnley on goal difference.
Speaking to the Burnley Express, Esteve reflected on an extraordinary season: “Reaching 100 points is an incredible feat. It’s a fantastic achievement by everyone involved. I’m extremely proud—not just of myself, but the entire team.
The unity in the dressing room is special, and the level of consistency we’ve shown is outstanding. Our mindset has always been to win every game and avoid defeat, which says a lot about the character of the squad.”
Discussing Burnley’s final victory over Millwall, Esteve added, “Winning that last match was crucial.
We finished level on points with Leeds, so credit to them—they had a phenomenal season too.
It’s tough not being crowned champions after hitting 100 points, but overall, it’s been an exceptional campaign and I couldn’t be prouder of everyone.”
With both clubs now preparing for Premier League action, Burnley have wasted no time in strengthening their squad.
They’ve confirmed the permanent signings of four former loanees: Jaidon Anthony, Marcus Edwards, Zian Flemming, and Bashir Humphreys—all of whom will play key roles in next season’s survival push.
However, uncertainty surrounds defender CJ Egan-Riley. Although Burnley’s recently published retained list shows ongoing negotiations for a new contract, reports suggest he may have already agreed to a five-year deal with Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg.
The Clarets are also still in discussions with captain and top scorer Josh Brownhill, whose current contract is nearing its end.
Meanwhile, Leeds’ retained list, released over the weekend, confirms that talks are ongoing with full-backs Junior Firpo and Sam Byram. Midfielder Josuha Guilavogui, however, will not be returning to Elland Road.
