Nottingham Forest and West Ham Charged After Late-Game Chaos in Premier League Clash
Nottingham Forest and West Ham United have both been charged by the Football Association following a heated confrontation during the final moments of their Premier League match on Sunday.
Forest secured a crucial 2-1 win at the London Stadium, with goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nikola Milenkovic keeping their Champions League hopes alive heading into the final weekend.
The match, which lasted a staggering 112 minutes and 55 seconds—making it the second-longest Premier League game of the season—was marred by a late brawl involving multiple players from both sides.
The FA confirmed on Tuesday: “Nottingham Forest and West Ham United have been charged in relation to the mass confrontation during their Premier League game on Sunday, 18 May.
It’s alleged both clubs failed to ensure their players behaved in a proper manner during an incident around the 103rd minute. They must respond to the charges by Friday, 23 May.”
The melee unfolded deep into stoppage time. Forest’s Murillo and Morato received bookings, while West Ham’s Edson Alvarez and Carlos Soler were also cautioned.
Much of the added time stemmed from a six-minute VAR review to determine the legitimacy of Milenkovic’s second-half goal, which was eventually allowed.
Delays were further complicated by the lack of semi-automated offside technology and communication issues between VAR and the on-field officials. Referee Sam Barrott had to personally explain the situation to both managers.
Despite a late surge from West Ham, Forest held on for the win and now prepare to face Chelsea at the City Ground on Sunday, with a top-five finish—and possible Champions League qualification—still within reach.
Reflecting on the result, Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo said: “We’ve wanted to be in this fight since the start of the season—and we’ve earned the right.
If someone had said back then this would be possible, few would have believed it. Now we have one last chance to make something magical happen.”
