Premier League contenders Nottingham Forest are reportedly preparing a move for Ipswich Town left-back Leif Davis, following the Tractor Boys’ relegation from the Premier League.
Ipswich’s return to the top flight after 22 years ended in disappointment, as their demotion back to the Championship was sealed after a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United last month with several games still to play.
With preparations already underway for next season, manager Kieran McKenna may have to do without one of his key players, with Davis now attracting interest from Forest.
Leif Davis Drawing Premier League Attention
Born in Newcastle, Davis began his professional career with Leeds United, making his senior debut in 2018 at the age of 18. After a loan spell at AFC Bournemouth, he joined Ipswich in 2022 and has since developed into one of the EFL’s top-performing full-backs.
His contributions were vital in helping Ipswich achieve back-to-back promotions to the Premier League.
Although Ipswich couldn’t avoid relegation, Davis stood out with consistent performances, catching the attention of several top-flight clubs.
According to TWTD, Nottingham Forest have renewed their interest in the 25-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window, having previously monitored him during his standout Championship campaign.
Under Nuno EspÃrito Santo, Forest have enjoyed an excellent season, with European football now on the cards.
As they look to bolster their squad for the added demands of potential Champions League fixtures, Davis has emerged as a prime target.
Ipswich Likely to Demand Big Fee for Davis
Davis was a standout in the Championship in 2023/24, recording 21 assists in 43 games and earning a spot in the PFA Team of the Year.
While he’s been less dominant in the Premier League, he remains one of Ipswich’s more reliable performers.
Despite Forest’s interest, Ipswich hold a strong negotiating position. Davis signed a contract extension last October, keeping him at the club until 2028, meaning any summer move would require a significant fee.
Forest, however, could have the financial muscle to make a deal happen if their Champions League qualification is confirmed.
While Davis has recently spoken about focusing on next season with Ipswich, a chance to join a top-five Premier League side competing in Europe could prove too tempting if Forest formalize their interest.
