“Regis Le Bris drops Cryptic hint about Mundle, Roberts and Sunderland’s future plans

Le Bris Gives Little Away on Mundle and Roberts Fitness Ahead of Play-Off Final

Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris is staying tight-lipped about the fitness of Romaine Mundle and Patrick Roberts as his side gears up for Saturday’s crucial play-off final against Sheffield United.

Speaking on Thursday, Le Bris admitted he hasn’t yet finalised his starting lineup for the promotion showdown, saying he’ll make a decision after observing the final training session on Friday morning.

The availability of Mundle and Roberts could play a key role in shaping Sunderland’s attacking approach.

Roberts has been dealing with a calf issue since the semi-final second leg win over Coventry, while Mundle, who made an impact off the bench in extra time, has missed parts of training since that appearance.

When asked about the duo’s condition, Le Bris remained cautious. “Everyone is available—more or less,” he said. “At the end of the season, you always get a few knocks.

It’s the last game, so players can push through some discomfort. We’ll have to see.

“It’s a situation we often face this time of year—managing injuries and planning for different game scenarios, including substitutions.

I wouldn’t say we have full availability, but close to it. The important thing is I have options now.”

On team selection, Le Bris revealed nothing is set in stone. “We haven’t made a final decision yet. We have one more training session tomorrow,” he explained.

“The good thing is we now have two or three tactical choices, which hasn’t always been the case this season.

There were times we lacked flexibility, but that also pushed us to adapt and improve in other ways. That’s been part of our growth.

“We’ll evaluate everything on Friday, then decide on the starting eleven and who will be our impact players off the bench.”
