Liverpool will wrap up their Premier League campaign today against Crystal Palace, with the spotlight firmly on the long-awaited title presentation—their first at Anfield in 35 years.
Fans have been counting down the days since the Reds secured the league title with a dominant 5-1 win over Tottenham on April 27.
Now, after nearly a month of anticipation, the trophy will finally be lifted in front of the Anfield faithful following today’s match.
Despite already being crowned champions, Liverpool will be aiming to end their season on a high note after failing to win any of their last three matches.
They face a confident Crystal Palace side, fresh off their FA Cup triumph and a midweek win over Manchester City.
Alan Shearer, speaking to Betfair, expressed confidence in a Liverpool victory: “This is the trophy parade at Anfield. Arne Slot has rotated his squad lately, but I think he’ll bring back his strongest lineup.
Palace have been in celebration mode, but I believe Liverpool will get the win—they’ll be up for it in front of their home crowd.”
Shearer, who famously won the Premier League at Anfield with Blackburn Rovers 30 years ago, fondly recalled the moment.
Meanwhile, his former strike partner Chris Sutton predicts a 3-1 win for Liverpool.
Writing for BBC Sport, Sutton noted the unpredictability of the fixture: “This is one of those games that’s hard to call.
It’s the champions against the FA Cup winners, but we don’t know how strong the lineups will be.
Liverpool have been coasting since winning the title, and Palace rested key players like Eze and Mateta in their last match.”
He added: “If Palace go full-strength and Liverpool rotate again, they could cause problems—especially if Van Dijk is left out like he was against Brighton.
But I think Slot will want to field a strong side and end on a high in front of the fans.”
Arsenal icon Paul Merson also predicts a 3-1 result in Liverpool’s favor. In his Sportskeeda column, Merson wrote: “There’ll be goals.
Liverpool will want to finish strong at home. People might say they won the title because others slipped up, but that’s unfair—Liverpool have been excellent.”
Merson voiced concerns about Liverpool’s depth in defense if Van Dijk were to be injured but remains confident they’ll come out on top today: “Palace are riding high after the FA Cup and a win over Wolves, but I don’t think they’ll get another here.
Both sets of fans will be celebrating an unforgettable season, and Anfield’s atmosphere will be electric.”
