West Ham Lead Ipswich 1-0 at the Break Thanks to Ward-Prowse

James Ward-Prowse’s goal has given West Ham a 1-0 lead over Ipswich Town at half-time in their final Premier League match of the season.

Graham Potter made five changes to his side following their 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest, with Niclas Fullkrug starting in place of Mohammed Kudus.

However, Fullkrug’s first-half showing may force Potter into reconsidering his selection.

Time for Potter to Drop Fullkrug?

West Ham have struggled in attack all season, with both Michail Antonio and Fullkrug sidelined by injuries for extended periods.

Evan Ferguson was brought in on loan in January to add firepower, but his impact has been minimal.

Since returning from injury, Fullkrug has earned support from fans for both his performances and his candid comments about the club’s challenges.

His absence from the squad against Forest surprised many, but Potter handed him a start against Ipswich as a reward.

Unfortunately, the German striker has failed to impress so far. The 32-year-old has only managed two touches in the opponent’s box, lost possession once, and shown little physical presence.

He’s also failed to complete a dribble or a long ball and hasn’t won a single tackle, losing half of his duels. These stats point to a poor display that may justify substituting him at the interval.

While Ward-Prowse has stepped up, Fullkrug has yet to make any significant contribution.

A Positive Finish Is Crucial for West Ham

Potter’s tenure at West Ham has been disappointing so far, and with the summer window approaching, finishing the season positively is essential.

There is already skepticism about the manager’s future, but the off-season will give him a chance to reshape the squad.

Ending the season on a high could also help attract new players, as a positive atmosphere and momentum are appealing to potential signings.

With 45 minutes remaining and only league position at stake, Potter must push for all three points to close the campaign on a positive note.
