Hurzeler Delighted as Brighton Finish Season in Style with 4-1 Win Over Spurs
Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler expressed his satisfaction with the team’s strong finish to the Premier League season, following a dominant 4-1 victory away to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, May 25.
Facing a confident Spurs side fresh off their Europa League triumph, Brighton entered a charged atmosphere at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where 61,449 fans packed the stands for the season finale.
Tottenham struck first in the 17th minute when Mats Wieffer committed a clumsy foul on Mathys Tel in the box, gifting the hosts a penalty which they converted to take the lead.
But after the break, Brighton turned the tide. A well-worked corner saw Gruda deliver the ball, which Webster nodded on before Jack Hinshelwood pounced and fired home to level the score.
The equalizer injected life into the Seagulls, who dominated much of the second half. Their relentless pressure saw them nearly go ahead in the 63rd minute when Carlos Baleba’s deflected shot struck the post.
Just two minutes later, Hinshelwood struck again, this time with a clever backheel finish inside the box—his third goal in two games—to put Brighton in front.
Brighton continued to press, and they were rewarded with a penalty late in the match after Diego Gomez was brought down in the box. Matt O’Riley calmly converted from the spot.
Then, in stoppage time, Gomez added a final flourish, smashing a stunning strike into the top-left corner from distance to seal an emphatic win.
In his post-match comments to Sussex World, Hurzeler praised his team’s turnaround:
“I’m very pleased with how we responded after halftime. We showed character, played with more personality, improved our positioning in possession, and reacted better when we lost the ball.”
He added, “Overall, I’m very happy with how we ended the season and with the performances of the individual players.”
