Crystal Palace End Season with Draw at Anfield as Glasner Criticizes Players’ Commitment
Crystal Palace concluded their 2024–25 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Premier League champions Liverpool at Anfield, but manager Oliver Glasner was far from satisfied with his team’s effort.
In a celebratory atmosphere, both clubs honored each other pre-match — Liverpool as league champions and Palace as newly crowned FA Cup winners.
The game itself had no bearing on the standings but saw early excitement when Ismaila Sarr gave Palace the lead in the 9th minute.
Liverpool went down to 10 men after Ryan Gravenberch was sent off for a professional foul on Daichi Kamada in the second half.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, the hosts fought back, with Mohamed Salah scoring his 29th league goal to secure a point.
Palace wrapped up the season in 12th place with a club-record 53 Premier League points and their first-ever major trophy.
However, Glasner was critical of the attitude shown by some of his players in their final outing.
Speaking after the match, Glasner expressed his disappointment:
“I’m not happy with the performance — not overall, but certain individuals didn’t give 100% for the team or play the way we expect. I didn’t like what I saw.”
He pointed to missed chances and a lack of determination, drawing parallels to the team’s poor start to the season.
“We threw away opportunities today just like we did early in the campaign,” he said. “That kind of mindset can cost us again if it continues.”
Despite the success this season brought, Glasner made it clear he expects full commitment from every player going forward.
“It’s easy to find excuses — travel, fatigue — but we came prepared. If someone didn’t feel like playing, they should have told me and stayed home,” he said.
“When we play at Anfield, I expect 100% focus and effort. That wasn’t the case for everyone today.
A few players were more focused on themselves than the team. That’s unacceptable.”
Glasner emphasized that while the season was historic, complacency could be dangerous.
“We haven’t reached our ceiling as a team, but with the attitude I saw today, we’ll struggle again next season.”
Crystal Palace and Liverpool will meet again soon — in the Community Shield at Wembley on Saturday, 9 August.
