West Ham’s 3-1 Win Over Ipswich Flattered by Scoreline
West Ham United closed out the 2024/25 Premier League season with a 3-1 win against already-relegated Ipswich Town, but the result was far more flattering than the performance suggested.
According to Hammers News, only Jarrod Bowen, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Lukasz Fabianski earned more than a 6/10 rating among Graham Potter’s starting eleven at Portman Road.
Expected goals (XG) reflected a closer contest, with West Ham edging it 1.08 to Ipswich’s 0.74.
Bowen, as ever, was the standout. After setting up James Ward-Prowse’s opener, the West Ham captain doubled the lead with a blistering left-footed strike from outside the box. It wasn’t until substitute Mohammed Kudus curled in a late third that the Hammers finally put the game beyond doubt.
Bowen Shines Amid England Snub
Bowen’s display came on a day when England boss Thomas Tuchel drew ire from West Ham fans for leaving him out of the upcoming June internationals.
The winger responded emphatically, reminding everyone of his quality just 12 minutes after assisting the opener.
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna admitted that aside from Bowen’s brilliance, the match was evenly balanced.
“I thought it was a very even game,” said McKenna. “We had more chances and did a lot right, but the execution at the top level is what separates the sides – and Bowen showed that.”

Ipswich had clawed it back to 1-1 before Bowen struck again, this time with a blistering finish that left keeper Christian Walton no chance.
McKenna was full of praise: “That’s the difference – you’re playing against one of the best players in the world every weekend.”
He added, “Our organisation and spirit were good, we got into good areas, but West Ham’s execution in the key moments won them the game.”
Bowen Staying Put – For Now
To the relief of West Ham fans, Bowen confirmed he has no intention of leaving this summer.
With the Hammers only narrowly avoiding a relegation scrap, his loyalty and form will be crucial as the club looks to rebound next season.
