Rumours of a possible return have circulated, but given his current status at Old Trafford, a move back to the Championship side-turned-Premier League newcomers appears out of reach.
Could Kwame Poku Be Sunderland’s Next Amad?
While a Diallo reunion may be far-fetched, Sunderland could have the chance to sign a similarly exciting talent in Kwame Poku. According to GIVEMESPORT, Sunderland are one of 26 clubs interested in signing the former Peterborough United winger on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract.
Poku, 23, enjoyed an outstanding season in League One, registering 21 goal contributions in just 29 games. His dribbling skills, flair, and attacking intelligence have drawn comparisons to Amad — and the stats back it up. Poku averaged 1.9 successful dribbles per match last season, edging out Amad’s 1.6.
Labelled “unplayable” by Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson, the Ghanaian winger could be just the spark Sunderland need as they step into the top flight. Like Amad, Poku hasn’t yet tested himself at Premier League level, but he could thrive with the right support system around him.
A Smart Signing for the Future?
While the leap from League One to the Premier League is significant, Sunderland will need to take some calculated risks in the transfer market — especially with a limited budget and a squad that needs bolstering. Poku fits the club’s recruitment model: young, talented, and with huge potential upside.
Unlike Amad, whose brilliance was only temporary during a loan spell, Poku could offer long-term value. Surrounded by fellow rising stars like Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham — and at a club known for nurturing young talent — he may find the ideal environment to flourish.
He might not make an instant impact, but given time, Poku could be Sunderland’s next breakout star — and a vital figure in their battle to stay up.
