Leeds United Submit Bid for Strasbourg Midfielder Habib Diarra

Leeds United have reportedly made a formal offer to sign midfielder Habib Diarra from French side Strasbourg.

The 21-year-old played a key role in Strasbourg’s strong Ligue 1 campaign last season, captaining the team to a seventh-place finish and helping secure European qualification under manager Liam Rosenior.

Diarra, known for his attacking flair, featured in 30 league matches, contributing four goals and five assists. His performances have drawn interest from several Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, Everton, and Nottingham Forest, according to The Sun.

Leeds Make €26m Move

French publication L’Équipe claims that Leeds have tabled a €26 million (£21.9 million) bid for the Senegal international. Strasbourg are said to be waiting to see if other clubs will respond, with potential interest from both the Premier League and Bundesliga. Diarra is currently under contract with the French club until 2028.

Potential Role at Leeds

With Leeds recently losing two key midfielders—Josuha Guilavogui has departed as a free agent, and Joe Rothwell has returned to Bournemouth after his loan—there’s a need for reinforcements in central midfield.

Daniel Farke now has Ethan Ampadu, Ao Tanaka, and Ilia Gruev as his main midfield options. While Tanaka offers high energy and work rate, Ampadu and Gruev are more defensively minded.

Diarra’s dynamic playing style could bring much-needed creativity and drive to the middle of the park. With Brenden Aaronson struggling for consistency in the attacking midfield role last season, Diarra could provide both competition and an upgrade in that position.
