Wolves Targeting New Striker as Summer Window Opens
Wolves are on the hunt for a new striker this summer following the departure of Matheus Cunha.
Last season, Vitor Pereira relied heavily on Jorgen Strand Larsen and Cunha for goals. But with Cunha now at Manchester United, concerns are growing among supporters about how the club will replace his creativity and goal threat.
There’s no question that Wolves need to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new campaign. Sasa Kalajdzic is expected to go out on loan to regain fitness after a long injury layoff, while Fabio Silva remains likely to leave on a permanent deal.
Wolves Eyeing Swiss League Talent
One player reportedly on Wolves’ radar is Willem Geubbels of Swiss side St. Gallen, according to Foot Mercato.
Geubbels joined St. Gallen in 2023 after stints with AS Monaco and Lyon, where he made history by debuting at just 16 years old — the first player born in the 21st century to feature in both Ligue 1 and the Europa League. Monaco even paid around £17 million for him back in 2018, highlighting his early promise.
The 23-year-old forward enjoyed a strong 2024/25 season in Switzerland, finishing with 14 league goals — matching Strand Larsen’s tally at Wolves — and adding three more in cup competitions. His form has attracted widespread interest.
Union Berlin and FC Cologne are reportedly monitoring him, as are several Premier League clubs including Wolves, Southampton, Sheffield United, and Leeds United. FC Twente from the Netherlands and multiple teams in Italy and Spain are also said to be in the mix.
St. Gallen reportedly value Geubbels at around £8.5 million and believe it will be difficult to keep hold of him this summer given the volume of interest.
What Geubbels Could Offer Wolves
Primarily a central striker, Geubbels has also been deployed on the left flank. According to Football Talent Scout, he’s a dynamic attacker with explosive pace, strong dribbling ability in one-on-one situations, and a keen eye for goal. His speed also makes him a potent threat on the counter-attack, and he’s noted for his aerial ability.
With Wolves aiming to recruit two players for the number 10 positions, Geubbels could be seen as a candidate for the left-sided attacking role — potentially stepping into the void left by Cunha’s exit.
