“Tanganga Breaks Silence on Transfer interest, here’s where he’s REALLY going after Leeds & Sunderland talks.

Japhet Tanganga is currently attracting a lot of attention for two main reasons:

His impressive form and the fact that several Premier League clubs, including Leeds United, have been alerted to his bargain release clause.

Tanganga initially joined Millwall on loan from Tottenham in January 2024, and after impressing, he made the move permanent.

He has arguably been one of the Championship’s standout centre-backs this season.

If Tanganga had played for clubs like Leeds, Sunderland, Burnley, or Sheffield United, there’s little doubt he would have made the Championship Team of the Season.

With Millwall missing out on the play-offs, the defender could be on the move.

Early reports linked Leeds and Sunderland among the interested clubs, given Tanganga’s surprisingly low £1.2 million release clause. Crystal Palace and Scott Parker’s Burnley have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

Leeds Hit with Setback as Tanganga’s Transfer Preference Emerges

Interest in Tanganga is expected to be strong. An England U21 international, Tanganga is still developing and represents incredible value at just £1.2 million. His versatility and Premier League experience add to his appeal.

However, according to transfer expert Alan Nixon of The Sun, despite interest from five Premier League clubs, Tanganga actually prefers to move abroad.

The former Tottenham defender’s preferred destination this summer is a club in either Germany or France. He has also been linked with Italian sides like Napoli in recent seasons.

Other Central Defenders on Leeds United’s Radar

Meanwhile, Leeds are progressing on other defensive targets. Udinese’s Slovenian defender Jaka Bijol has reportedly agreed personal terms ahead of a £15 million move, with Leeds now negotiating the transfer fee.

Leeds are also in talks with Atletico Madrid over Mozambique international Reinildo Mandava, a versatile defender who can operate at centre-back or left-back.

Irish defender Dara O’Shea has been linked to Leeds but has suggested he plans to stay with Ipswich despite their relegation.
