Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg has reportedly withdrawn from the England U19 squad after picking up an injury while on international duty. The 17-year-old, who was expected to play a key role at the upcoming UEFA European U19 Championship in Romania, will now miss the tournament due to an ankle issue.
Rigg was a standout performer during Sunderland’s promotion-winning campaign and had been seen as a central figure in the Young Lions’ squad for the European competition.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, it was the ankle injury that forced his early exit from the squad. His absence is a setback for England, as Rigg had been one of the most promising players during the qualifying rounds.
The injury news also comes as interest in Rigg continues to grow, with scouts from several top clubs reportedly planning to watch him during the tournament. TEAMtalk reports that seven Premier League sides — including West Ham, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton, Brighton, and Crystal Palace — are monitoring his development.
