‘I want to…”- Eintracht Frankfurt star breaks silence on transfer speculation amid Man Utd links
Manchester United Eye Bundesliga Talent as Frankfurt Star Addresses Transfer Rumours
Manchester United are looking to the Bundesliga as a key market this summer, with several German-based players linked to potential moves.
One of those players has now spoken publicly about the speculation.
The primary target appears to be Hugo Ekitike, the £85 million-rated striker from Eintracht Frankfurt.
United turned their attention to Ekitike after failing to secure Liam Delap and learning that Viktor Gyökeres prefers a move to Arsenal.
But Ekitike isn’t the only Frankfurt player catching United’s eye. Although a double deal is unlikely — especially with the complexities around Ekitike’s transfer — goalkeeper Kaua Santos has also been mentioned as a possible target.
Kaua Santos Speaks Out Amid United Interest
While United have been locked in talks for nearly two weeks over Bryan Mbeumo, their focus isn’t solely on the attack.
Uncertainty remains around the goalkeeping position, particularly after André Onana recently refused to confirm his long-term commitment to the club.
Santos, a 22-year-old Brazilian shot-stopper at Frankfurt, emerged as a name of interest. Despite signing a new contract with the German club in October 2024, transfer rumours have continued to swirl.
In an interview with Die Welt (via Sport Witness), Santos addressed the speculation directly:
“The people in charge at Frankfurt have shown great trust in me. They wanted to keep working with me even before the rumours began.
They still have a lot of belief in me, so extending my contract was an easy decision. I want to prove myself here, perform consistently, and achieve everything I can.
Right now, my full focus is on Eintracht Frankfurt.”
Santos Not a Short-Term Solution for United
With Santos now reaffirming his commitment to Frankfurt, it’s clear that a move to Old Trafford is unlikely this summer.
Given his age and current experience level — not yet a regular starter — investing in him as competition for Onana would have been a gamble, particularly at Frankfurt’s valuation.
Allowing Santos to develop further and potentially establish himself as Frankfurt’s No. 1 makes more sense.
It’s also a testament to the player’s maturity that he wants to honour the club’s faith in him before considering a move elsewhere.
For United, the door may not be closed entirely. If Santos continues his progression, they may revisit their interest down the line — this time for a more seasoned and ready-made goalkeeper.
