Kyle Walker Linked with Surprise Move to Everton as Toffees Eye Defensive Reinforcements
Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker has been surprisingly linked with a move to Everton during this transfer window, as the club looks to strengthen its defence ahead of the new season.
With Ashley Young set to depart, David Moyes faces a clear need to add depth to the backline. Jake O’Brien recently filled in at right-back under the Scottish boss, but his long-term role at Goodison Park remains uncertain.
According to Alex Crook, Moyes is a keen admirer of Walker, and Everton manager Sean Dyche has also weighed in on the speculation surrounding the England international’s potential switch to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Walker Brings Obvious Quality and Valuable Experience
Speaking to talkSPORT on 21 June, Dyche emphasized the importance of experienced players like Walker, particularly given the departures of veterans such as Young and Seamus Coleman.
“They’re probably at that stage where they still need that kind of professional depth of some players. We had it with Young and obviously Coleman,” Dyche said. “Walker, I don’t know him personally, but the way he conducts himself, his history and depth of knowledge of the game are quite obvious.”
Dyche praised Walker’s attitude and career achievements at Manchester City, noting his leadership and professionalism as key traits.
Walker Move More Realistic Than Grealish Signing
While there have been rumours linking Jack Grealish to Everton as a marquee signing under the Friedkin Group (TFG), such a deal seems unlikely given his high valuation and wage demands. In contrast, a move for the 35-year-old Walker appears far more feasible.
Following a loan spell at AC Milan in the winter, Walker’s time at Manchester City seems to be drawing to a close. Everton could offer him a short-term solution and a regular role, with his experience proving valuable both on and off the pitch.
Although Walker hasn’t been at his peak recently, he could still provide solid performances and mentor younger players at the club. Moyes may see him as a cost-effective addition while planning a long-term successor at right-back.
TFG will be looking to reduce the average age of the squad, but a player of Walker’s calibre and leadership could be instrumental in stabilizing the team during a crucial transition period at Everton.
