Leeds United Eye Shock Move for Juventus Midfielder Douglas Luiz

Leeds United are reportedly exploring a surprise move for out-of-favour Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, as they seek to bolster their squad in a bid to remain in the Premier League.

According to Calciomercato, the West Yorkshire club have already initiated contact over a potential transfer, aiming to rescue Luiz from a difficult spell in Italy.

Despite making just 19 Serie A appearances last season, the 27-year-old Brazilian remains a highly regarded talent.

Entering the prime of his career, Luiz’s combination of experience and quality could make him a key asset for Daniel Farke’s side in their fight for top-flight survival.

The report highlights Luiz’s absence in Juventus’ recent 5-2 defeat to Manchester City in the Club World Cup, suggesting he is no longer part of the club’s future plans.

Following a challenging debut campaign in Serie A, a return to England appears increasingly likely, with Leeds among the leading candidates for his signature.

While Juventus are not under pressure to sell before the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) deadline on June 30, a transfer would be welcomed.

Leeds have already taken initial steps, having made contact with Luiz’s representatives, and the move is seen as one of the most realistic options before Monday’s deadline.

Elland Road could now become Luiz’s next destination, with the club also exploring a deal for Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra. Notably, Luiz previously joined a newly promoted Premier League side in Aston Villa back in 2019 after they won the Championship play-offs.

During his time in the Midlands, he became a key figure in the squad, scoring 10 goals across all competitions in the 2023/24 season and helping Villa qualify for the Champions League. Teammate John McGinn once described him as “world-class.”
