Sebastiaan Bornauw Becomes Leeds United’s Third Summer Signing After Chat with Guilavogui
Sebastiaan Bornauw has officially become Leeds United’s third signing of the summer, joining on a four-year deal at Elland Road. His decision to join the club came after a lengthy conversation with former teammate Josuha Guilavogui.
Today also marks Guilavogui’s first day as a free agent, following the expiration of his Leeds contract on June 30.
Fellow players Junior Firpo and Sam Byram also saw their contracts come to an end on the same date.
Despite his recent departure, Guilavogui has played a key role in Leeds’ summer business. Loved by fans during his time at Elland Road, he helped influence two of the club’s three new signings.
Lukas Nmecha recently revealed that Guilavogui spoke to him about the move to Leeds, despite interest from other Premier League sides.
Now, Guilavogui has also helped persuade Bornauw to join the Yorkshire club.
What Guilavogui Told Bornauw About Leeds
Bornauw and Guilavogui were teammates at Wolfsburg, featuring together in 30 matches during the Belgian defender’s four-year stay. Their close relationship led Bornauw to seek Guilavogui’s opinion on a move to Leeds.
In his first interview with LUTV, Bornauw recounted how Guilavogui responded:
“I know Josh really well. When I asked him about Leeds, he sent me around 20 voice messages because we were both at the airport and couldn’t talk on the phone,” Bornauw said.
“They were all about a minute long—telling me how great Leeds is, how well I’d fit in, and how positive everything is here. He really spoke highly of the club. I know the fans liked him a lot.”
Wober Likely to Depart as Bornauw Steps In
Bornauw’s arrival comes as Max Wöber looks set to leave Leeds this summer. Wöber, who made just nine appearances last season due to two knee surgeries, has confirmed the club informed him he would be sold.
Leeds are preparing to start the 2025-26 campaign with Joe Rodon and Jaka Bijol as the first-choice centre-back pairing, with Pascal Struijk likely serving as backup. Bornauw is expected to take Wöber’s spot in the rotation.
According to LeedsUnited.News, several Bundesliga clubs have expressed interest in Wöber, and Wolfsburg may look to bring him in as a replacement for Bornauw.
