Everton Agree Deal in Principle for Villarreal Striker Thierno Barry
Everton have reached a preliminary agreement with Villarreal to sign striker Thierno Barry, according to talkSPORT sources.
The 22-year-old has a £34 million release clause, but Everton have successfully negotiated a reduced fixed fee of around £28 million. The total deal could rise to approximately £35 million with performance-based add-ons.
Barry impressed last season with 11 goals in LaLiga and recently featured for France in the Under-21 European Championship held in Slovakia.
He is expected to fill the void left by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is departing Goodison Park on a free transfer after his contract expired.
Further Transfer Plans
Everton continue to explore options in attack, particularly targeting wingers. Jack Grealish remains a potential target, though only if Manchester City agree to a loan move. Liverpool youngster Ben Doak is also on their radar.
In midfield, Everton are considering reinforcements with a combative profile. Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff and Leicester’s Wilfried Ndidi have been discussed, while Genoa’s Morten Frendrup is back under consideration. Frendrup, also being monitored by West Ham, is available for around €25 million.
Tomas Soucek has been linked due to his previous connection with David Moyes, but Everton have yet to initiate contact with either the player or West Ham.
Right-Back Search Continues
With Kenny Tete opting to remain at Fulham, Everton are still searching for a right-back. They’ve held discussions with Kyle Walker, who is available to leave Manchester City despite having a year left on his deal. Milan, where he spent the latter part of last season on loan, have decided not to pursue a permanent transfer.
Kyle Walker-Peters, now a free agent after leaving Southampton, has also been mentioned internally, though it remains to be seen if Everton will make a formal approach.
Contract Updates
Everton have been handed a major boost with centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite committing his future to the club by signing a new five-year deal, quashing speculation about a summer move.
Meanwhile, veterans Idrissa Gana Gueye and Michael Keane, both currently out of contract, are expected to sign extensions in the coming days.
