Troy Parrott has acknowledged that it was the right moment for him to leave Tottenham as he begins his journey with his new club, AZ Alkmaar.
The striker discussed his recent move from Tottenham with De Telegraaf, as reported by Soccer News. Parrott ended his seven-year stint with Spurs this summer by completing a €4m transfer to Alkmaar.
Parrott joined Tottenham from Ireland’s Belvedere FC in 2017 as a youngster but struggled to secure a regular spot in the team. Instead, he spent the last few years on loan at various clubs, including Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons, Preston, and Excelsior. It was with Excelsior that he found success, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists in 32 games last season.
These impressive numbers convinced Alkmaar to sign him, as they needed a replacement for striker Vangelis Pavlidis, who has joined Benfica. Parrott is eager to fill the big shoes left by Pavlidis and feels that this summer was the ideal time to move on from Tottenham and start anew.
“I don’t want to put pressure on myself, but if I play well and help the team, I hope it works out,” Parrott said. “I think AZ is a good place where players get the opportunity to develop. I have been at Tottenham for a long time, but it was time to move on.”
