Adam Forshaw was part of the Leeds United squad that secured promotion to the Premier League four years ago. Although he was sidelined for much of that season, Forshaw still played a role in ending Leeds’ 16-year absence from the top flight.
Unfortunately, Forshaw also experienced Leeds’ relegation back to the Championship 14 months ago, marking the end of his lengthy tenure in West Yorkshire. Since leaving Leeds, Forshaw’s journey hasn’t been easy, but he could return to Elland Road as a visiting player for the first time since his departure in early November.
Forshaw faced Leeds while playing for Norwich City at Carrow Road in October but was cup-tied when Plymouth Argyle met Leeds in the FA Cup after his move to the club in January.
Forshaw Predicts Leeds’ Promotion
Heading into the new season, many view Leeds as favorites for promotion, aiming to improve on their third-place finish and play-off final defeat last term. Despite the departures of Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray, Leeds’ squad appears strong ahead of Saturday’s opener against Portsmouth, with four pre-season victories under their belt.
New signings Joe Rodon, Joe Rothwell, and Jayden Bogle have integrated well, while Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober add depth after their loan spells. More signings are also expected.
Forshaw, in an interview with The Athletic, predicts that Leeds’ return to the Premier League is only a “matter of time.” He emphasized the passion of the city and the club’s strong community, stating, “The people make the club, and it’s got a lot of history. It’s a matter of time before they get promoted again. They weren’t far away last season, and they’ll be right up there again this season.”
Ian Holloway’s Leeds Prediction
With the new season about to kick off with two matches on Friday night, pundits like Ian Holloway have shared their predictions. Holloway expressed concerns about Leeds’ wage bill but believes Daniel Farke can handle the pressure and lead the team to promotion.
He stated, “I felt for them. They kept as many of their good players as they could. I wouldn’t want their wage bill, to be honest. Daniel Farke is great, and he could still get them up.”
