"OUTRAGEOUS" - Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe was enraged by Leeds United's defensive performance during their Carabao Cup loss to Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.

Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe was highly critical of Leeds United’s defensive performance during their 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.

Leeds suffered a disappointing loss at Elland Road, with Anfernee Dijksteel, Delano Burgzorg, and Josh Coburn all finding the net in the second half. Hinchcliffe expressed frustration over Leeds’ inability to handle Middlesbrough’s direct play, particularly after Dijksteel opened the scoring.

Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event, Hinchcliffe pointed out that Leeds’ defenders and midfielders were too passive, allowing Dijksteel to carry the ball into a dangerous position before calmly finishing with his weaker left foot. He also singled out Junior Firpo, Joe Rodon, and Joe Rothwell for their poor defending.

Leeds’ early exit from the Carabao Cup highlights the challenges facing manager Daniel Farke, as the team’s first two performances of the season have been underwhelming. After conceding three goals in a draw with newly-promoted Portsmouth, Leeds once again allowed three goals at home against a promotion-contending Middlesbrough.

Hinchcliffe was particularly disappointed by Leeds’ lack of defensive pressure, noting that while their defense is considered a strength with players like Rodon, Max Wober, and Pascal Struijk, they crumbled against Boro and offered little threat in attack.

With significant funds raised through the sales of Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville, Leeds may need to reinvest in strengthening their squad, particularly in midfield.

In other news, a Leeds United player was spotted with the squad against Middlesbrough for the first time since 2022.
