HUGE ERROR: Julen Lopetegui makes his first blunder as West Ham United manager in the match against Aston Villa.
Julen Lopetegui may have made a significant error by starting Konstantinos Mavropanos in West Ham’s lineup against Aston Villa on August 17. Despite the club securing new signing Jean-Clair Todibo, who was snatched from Juventus, the French defender is left on the bench while Max Kilman gets the nod in the starting eleven.
Mavropanos has struggled under David Moyes, and there’s little evidence to suggest that he will perform better under Lopetegui. It would be wise for the Spaniard to consider substituting him for Todibo at halftime.
Despite this decision, West Ham should still feel confident in their chances against Aston Villa. Recent signings, such as Kilman and midfielder Guido Rodriguez, have strengthened the defense, which could pose problems for Villa’s often inconsistent attack, especially away from home.
Aston Villa’s track record against the Hammers is another positive sign, with only one victory in their last ten meetings. The absence of key Villa players like Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings also works in West Ham’s favor.
Lopetegui’s tactical approach could further exploit Villa’s potential overconfidence after their success last season, aiming to unsettle them early in the new campaign.
