If Ange Postecoglou was frustrated by Tottenham Hotspur’s draw against Leicester City last week, he’ll feel much more satisfied after game week two.
Tottenham delivered a stellar performance against Everton, despite the visitors not posing the challenge Postecoglou’s team might have anticipated.
Postecoglou made a daring decision by using Yves Bissouma as the sole defensive midfielder and deploying five attackers ahead of him.
Instead of slotting Richarlison into the lineup following Dominic Solanke’s absence, Postecoglou opted for Wilson Odobert on the left and moved Son Heung-min back to the center, a strategy that proved successful.
Odobert impressed on his debut, validating Vincent Kompany’s high praise for his potential.
Defensively, Spurs were equally impressive, with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero standing out. Although Romero made a few errant passes in the first half, he demonstrated his dominance by scoring with a header.
After the match, Romero took to Instagram to celebrate the 4-0 victory and his milestone of 100 appearances for Tottenham since his £43m transfer in 2021. He posted a series of game photos with a caption: “A special match and an honor to reach 100 games with this shirt. Great game by all, this is the way to go! Thank you all for the support as always. Let’s go Spurs.”
Several Tottenham teammates, including Solanke and Van de Ven, quickly congratulated him.
Given his accomplishments with Argentina and his age of just 26, it’s remarkable to think Romero still has a decade of football ahead. Tottenham fans will hope most of those years are spent at the club.
Romero has certainly grown under Postecoglou and has improved his play with the ball. However, Postecoglou was also impressed by another Tottenham player following Saturday’s win.
