Everton had shown interest in Gnonto over the summer, and there were rumors of a possible return to Inter Milan. Additionally, Italian clubs Spezia, Parma, and Genoa were all linked with Gnonto, though he ultimately stayed with Leeds and is expected to play a crucial role this season.
Now, Italian outlet Milan Live reports that Alberto Gilardino, coach of Parma, is keen to bring Gnonto to the Serie B side in January, despite his new contract. Parma’s interest persists as they look to strengthen their squad.
Gnonto’s substitution at half-time during Italy U21’s recent match against San Marino, with his team already leading 2-0, raised concerns at Leeds. A Leeds official promptly checked on his fitness. Gnonto quickly reassured the club via text that he was not injured but had been substituted to avoid a potential suspension. Italy U21 coordinator Maurizio Viscidi clarified that Gnonto’s actions were simply a gesture of respect, aimed at addressing any concerns from Leeds.
