West Ham might still be active in the transfer market, even though the UK transfer window closed on August 30th at 11 pm. European transfer windows are still open, with Turkey’s deadline not until September 13th.
Galatasaray, a major club in Turkey’s Super Lig, is reportedly eyeing a move for West Ham’s Emerson Palmieri. Turkish news outlet Sabah reports that Galatasaray initially targeted Lucas Digne from Aston Villa but has shifted focus to Emerson after Digne rejected the move.
Sabah suggests that Galatasaray may reach out to West Ham today (September 10th) due to the impending deadline. Emerson, who joined West Ham for £13 million from Chelsea in August 2022, made 47 appearances last season, contributing one goal and two assists from left-back.
It’s unlikely West Ham will seriously consider Galatasaray’s interest in Emerson. The Italian defender has been a regular starter under Julen Lopetegui, featuring in all three Premier League games this season. Given that West Ham cannot immediately replace him, it’s improbable the deal will progress beyond initial inquiries.
Moreover, Aaron Cresswell, the only backup behind Emerson, is 34 and has only ten months remaining on his contract. It’s doubtful that Lopetegui would be willing to rely solely on Cresswell until January.
